The famous yellow minions are back and ready for another installment of Despicable Me. Steve Carell returns as Gru as he and his family try to take down Balthazar Bratt (voiced by Trey Parker) as he tries to (what else?) take over the world.
Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures are bringing the animated franchise back with another elite cast of voices. Carell not only reprises his role in the franchise but adds another one, that of his twin brother Dru who reunites with his long-lost sibling.
Find out more about the characters below.
In the new installment, Steve Carell reprises his role as the infamous villain-turned kind father Gru. This time, Gru meets his long-lost twin brother, Dru (also voiced by Carell). Dru is known for his signature blond hair and all-white ensemble to contrast with Gru's dark look. Carell has also voice-starred in Horton Hears a Who!, Over the Hedge and Hammy’s Boomerang Adventure.
Bridesmaids star Kristen Wiig reprises her role as Gru’s agent wife, Lucy Wilde. After her parents were killed by a villain when she was young, Wilde became an agent of the Anti-Villian league. Wilde soonafter became Gru's wife and the adoptive mother to Margo (voiced by Miranda Cosgrove), Agnes and Edith. Wiig has also voiced characters in the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, Sausage Party and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
Trey Parker will play the film’s resident villain Balthazar Bratt. Bratt, a former child star, seeks vengeance for his new show's cancellation and plots for world domination. Parker, who voices the antagonist, is one of the creators of the famous adult animated show, South Park. Despicable Me 3 will mark the first time Parker has starred in a film that he hasn’t directed.
Jenny Slate joins the Minion-filled franchise voicing Valerie Da Vinci, presumably a spoof of renowned artist Leonardo da Vinci. Although not much is known about her character, Slate is no stranger to the animation world. The actress has also voiced characters in Zootopia, The Secret Life of Pets and The Lego Batman Movie.
Nickelodeon star Miranda Cosgrove will star as the eldest of Gru and Wilde’s daughters. In this installment, Margo has grown older, something Gru as a somewhat new father is trying to cope with. Cosgrove has also starred in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, A Mouse Tale and Khan Kluay.
